basseyworld:
AFTER 10 YEARS as one of the leading names in spoken-word poetry, Bassey (pronounced B-ah-see) Ikpi is retiring from the spotlight. But before the Nigerian-born Ikpi - who performed with Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam on HBO and on tour - officially throws in the towel, she’ll take her show, “Basseyworld Live,” to Time on Thursday for one last go.
Falling Short Of a Goal...
…but still winning.
When I was in the hospital, a group of friends came to visit me. I told them that my first goal was to lose 50 lbs by this weekend. We’d planned an event and I just decided I would make that my first “check point” if you will.
Well, I didn’t lose 50lbs by this weekend. I lost 47.6 lbs. This coming Tuesday will be 10 weeks posts surgery.
To keep...

Lack of Critical Thinking is Pervasive
You know what really grinds my gears? When people brush of racial-insensitivity when it comes from someone who is of the race in question.
It came out that the Nivea ad was done by a Black man and everyone is all up in arms about that… as if a Black person could never be racially-insensitive, bigoted, prejudiced, or racist.
Right.
Because Black people neeeeever say negative things about...
locd-up-dreams-deactivated20110 asked: Thank you for posting that Nivea ad. I sent a letter to the company and I am glad that they took notice. I've also seen you answer some dream interpretation questions and I was hoping you'd answer one for me. A majority of my dreams settings have been in a either a school bus with old classmates or in a school with old classmates. What do you think that means?
foodiemusic asked: Hi, first let me say, you have a great blog, I love how open you are. I just saw you tweet about dream interpreting so thought I'd give it a shot. So, I often have dreams about falling, fighting or being chased and its almost always in slow motion.
divinenomad asked: Hey miss you on the board, hope all is well on your new journey!
I have a new dream for you:
Was having a convo with someone and michelle obama came up and we had friendly words, I called her Michelle as though we were familiar and then she asked me to watch this toddler, hugged me and walked off. I did all I could to keep my eyes on it was even pulling it by the leg...

verbal-purification asked: Can you help me with something? So I remember you saying that you interpreted dreams and my friend just shared one with me that has her on edge. Now, before I get into the dream, I want to share that she had Twins in April 2010. Then in February 2011, her youngest Twin (which was the smallest baby) died in her sleep. It was ruled as SIDS because nothing else was found to be a cause.
jadorefashionblog asked: I twitpic'd the Nivea photo you took and CNN used it for a story and credited me with drawing attention to this issue instead of you (Tumblr won't let me include the link to the article). Letting everyone know that you were the one to spot it.
Nivea Pulls Ad After Online Outcry →
Check out the piece on the Nivea controversy and a pretty dope mention of this blog right here!! Shout out to my friend Kyle Archer, who photographed the ad and tweeted it to me and a few others. I couldn’t do nothing, yanno? I’m glad that my efforts helped raise awareness about this and change was made.
I received the following from Nivea, which I think many of us did:
Hello Ms. T,...

A friend shared an image today that made me sick to my stomach. I am sharing with you in hopes that you do as I did and contact Nivea’s offices with a complaint

How dare you suggest in this ad lockerz.com/s/130486212 that Black men who appear with afros and facial hair are uncivilized and don’t give a damn about their appearance. It is a...
